In our humble (and notably subjective) opinion, if you need a fundus camera that does autofluorescence with imaging at 45°, this is by far your best option. The CR-2 AF from Canon is truly a remarkable showcase of what modern day retinal imaging can be when technology and optics come together. It all starts with Canon’s 20.2 megapixel image sensor-combined DSLR camera back that delivers some of the best quality photos photos we’ve ever seen. The CR-2 AF provides fantastic color, detail and contrast which can all be adjusted for increased clarity by emphasizing the difference in ‘redness’ and ‘brightness’ of blood vessel structures relative to their surroundings. As we well know however, what the camera is capable of doesn’t mean anything if the “perfect photo” can never be obtained. There’s good news here as well, as the CR-2’s built-in Auto-Focus, Auto-Capture, Auto-Exposure, Auto-Fundus– and let’s not forget Autofluorescence capabilities, do all the work for you (if you’d like– manual adjustments available). These features pretty much take care of everything, which means you’ll get the same great photo and angle overtime. If you still don’t have the image you want, the CR-2’s viewing software will deliver digital filter processing; digital red-free, and digital cobalt mode– the CR-2 AF extracts each element from the color image. Lastly it would seem that the CR-2’s flash intensity is definitely less intense with specific ISO settings than other similar cameras. Although just about every company that’s ever made a retinal camera all claim that their flash is less intense than the competitor, the CR-2 at low ISO speeds do produce a bearable illumination.
OUR TAKE: A seriously equipped fundus camera, for those that need serious fundus imaging.
At the touch of a button, the CR-2 PLUS AF provides instant access to this valuable diagnostic tool, enabling you to document changes in the Retinal Pigment Epithelium (RPE).
The instrument automatically tracks the cornea to align the instrument properly for the best possible image
The instrument automatically adjusts the lens focus to produce the clearest possible photo. This automated focus feature has an override option.
Automatically captures the image once the eye is properly focused.
Automatically switches from the external eye to retinal observation mode when the eye is properly aligned.
Advanced software automatically confirms both correct alignment and focus.
Low flash increases patient comfort and reduces miosis for a faster exam. The CR-2 PLUS AF supports a wide range of low ISO speeds, including ISO 200/400/800/1600/3200/6400.
Produces ultra-high-resolution, wide-angle views with excellent color, detail, and contrast. Enhances the view of the retinal vasculature and highlights common findings such as hemorrhages, drusen, and exudates. The camera has a full set of blue, green, and red digital processing modes to extract more in-depth information from each image.
Canon includes imageSPECTRUM IMAGE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE for image capture, review, manipulation, storage, and sharing.
