I’m not sure that you need the NIDEK RT-5100 outside the realms of some kind of some kind of refraction farm where the product is glasses and the quota is in the thousands-per-day range. It’s not only one of the best looking refractive-things I’ve ever seen, it’s also incredibly advanced- and maybe even too much so. The 5100 upon its birth was quite the thing- and it still is- starting with its stunning futuristic shape who’s sweeping lines and elongated curves will be sure to impress yourself and patients simultaneously upon every exam. Once you’re done staring at its butterfly-esque silhouette you’ll begin to stare at the enormously large and tillable and flappable LCD console screen which displays a refraction user interface beyond anything you’ve experienced with that old manual phorotper thing. The screen is nearly 9-inches, and the user interface for both operator and patient is lovely. Standard software features allow easy programming with on-screen refraction assist and the patient module itself sends signals when the patient is properly aligned. Final fit power calculations plus low-contrast mode, night mode, and the optional 21-point mode are major selling points- and perhaps even create a more efficient refraction process. Although I’m not again sure that the 5100 means anything more than marginal improved exam times given all the bells and whistles that your old phoropter doesn’t have that you’ll want to use. Thankfully, the RT-5100 is at home on NIDEK’s EPIC-5100 refraction system which means wireless (or wired) connection to NIDEK lensometers, auto refractors, and acuity charts. Synced data populates on the 5100’s console reducing input time and getting to a striating point quicker.

Dial with S/C/A Mode Key
Applying ergonomic principals, the main control dial allows for rapid refractive value changes. The button in the center of the dial allows the operator to easily switch modes (S, C, and A) with one hand, while looking at a patient when performing retinoscopy or the refraction.
Easy Programming and On-screen Assist Function
The RT-5100 offers easy programming of charts, cross cylinder test, and data fields (SPH, CYL, AXIS, and VA). In addition, On-screen assist function guides the operator step-by-step through the entire process.
The RT-5100 forehead position detector incorporates a blue LED which turns off when the patient’s forehead is in the correct position for measurement. Furthermore, the RT-5100 offers R/L independent PD adjustment and has visual field of 40 degrees, for more accurate measurement.
Tiltable, Flip Display
The tiltable LCD screen achieves smooth operation in both sitting and standing positions. Moreover, when used for near testing the displayed contents will be automatically flipped for the patient’s easy view.

The RT-5100 incorporates Final Fit, the adjusted power calculation program, to help find the most comfortable prescription for each patient.

Clear Vision Range Check
Clear Vision Range Check supports a comprehensive explanation to patients. Based on measured values, it gives the patient a visual aid in a graphical form to demonstrate the range of clear vision with their correction in place.
Contrast and Reverse Functions
Contrast test is available when either the System Chart (SC) or Space Saving Chart (SSC)*1 is connected. The contrast function enables the testing of visual acuity under low-contrast conditions (25%, 12.5% and 6%). It helps the operator to evaluate the visual function using contrast sensitivity and to observe changes with time. In addition, the reverse function is also available, when connected with the SC.
Reversed color VA chart is used for special test such as amblyopia.*2 *1 Contrast test availability differs according to the type of SSC. *2 VA value is for reference.
Some patients have significantly different SPH, CYL, AXIS values between their day and night pupils. By touching the night mode button on screen, it is possible to examine night-time visual acuity under low light condition. To measure in Night mode, a chart presenting device with Night measurement function (SSC-350/SSC-370/SC-1600/SC-1600 Pola) is necessary.
21-point Exams Plus Package (optional)
This optional software enables the operator to easily go through the process of the 21-point exams. These exams traditionally requires the operator to have a deep knowledge of optics and many years of experience. This software guides the operator through the entire exams. Furthermore, after the measurement, the graph of visual function analysis and comparison with the Morgan standard are displayed.
Memory Box Connection
