If you were wondering if your patients ever look over their shoulders at the acuity chart projector behind them and wonder about its power, capabilities, and design– we’re happy to inform you that it’s a no. As you do already know however your exam room’s acuity system display is exactly what they’re (trying) to look at and therefore you need something with power, and capability and maybe even design. The good news here is that Topcon delivers all three with their ACP-8 automated chart projector. Similar in nature to other acuity chart projectors such as the Marco CP-690, the Topcon version is connected via infrared remote control with 30-something charts and line isolation. On paper they seem basically the same however it’s in a clinical environment where the ACP-8 outcompetes similar models. Notably, the ACP’s nearly instant chart-change is almost twice as fast as the CP-690’s, and the remote control feels much more responsive that the competition’s. The bulbs illumination seems to produce slightly more contrast as well. Further, the ACP-8’s design allows for better housing and protection of the internal chart projection system- indicating to us that the Topcon should be far more reliable and robust than other similar models we’ve tested. It also looks like a Star Trek space ship and who doesn’t love that?
OUR TAKE: Nearly instant chart rotation with a very robust design.
The Topcon ACP-8 Auto Chart Projector provides improved sharp and clear image projection and fast chart rotation. A cordless remote controller allows instant projection of 30 test charts at a rate of 0.03 seconds per frame. In addition, the ACP-8 Chart Projector offers 3×5 character charts with a wide projection size (330×270) for fast and efficient testing.
It is very easy to replace the bulb. You do not need to adjust the position and focus of the bulb after replacement.
Different chart sets each offering a selection of 30 charts to cater for regional differences.
The ACP-8EM can be used as a stand alone set up, using a dedicated remote controller.
The ACP-8EM can be used as well in combination with a Topcon automated phoropter, the CV-5000. The CV-5000 can control the ACP-8EM chart projector directly, using the KB-50S controller or CV-software on an external PC. This combination allows the operator to use the ACP-8EM in a highly efficient way.
The versatile masking capabilities of the ACP-8EM allow projection of a single character at a time.
The horizontal axis of the projector can be adjusted to guarantee a perfectly positioned projection on the screen.

The ACP-8 will make 5 horizontal lines, 5 vertical lines, 8 vertical lines, and 21 single isolation characters.
Yes, the ACP allows 2 saved custom programs with a maximum of 30 steps available.
