On paper, the Topcon CL-100 would appear rather basic. For a present-decade instrument, Topcon hasn’t given us automatic lens recognition, a touch-screen user interface, or great looks from the CL-100 like we’ve come to expect from current lensometers. Instead, the CL-100 appears so rudimental that upon our testing of the device we really have come to enjoy it. Before getting into the nuts and bolts of it, we have to mention our like for the LCD display screen; Topcon decided that for the CL-100 they would only offer a 320 x 240 display not even producing an actual image, instead ‘dots’ that would produce an ‘icon-only’ interface. This doesn’t sound at all pleasing but it somehow produces a user interface that is refreshingly simple and easy-to-read. In fact, we ended up loving the CL-100’s user interface software that displays data in perfect organization and large form. Instead of utilizing an LCD that produce an actual image, the CL-100 uses hundreds of black dots to create an icon interface that is wonderfully organized and simple-to-read. Even the organization of progressive lens readings are sharp and delightful to look at. One thing we wish Topcon would do better- which becomes especially apparent on welll-used CL-100s, is the eventual brittleness of the plastic casing over time. Despite this, Topcon does other things quite well- including the CL-100’s accuracy, smoothness of knobs/dials, and integration with other refractive devices/EHR platforms.
OUR TAKE: A simple user interface will lead to craving its rudimental functions.
The CL-100 is a straightforward to operate lensmeter with a clear, large LCD screen. The CL-100 gives fast and reliable results. Obtain precise measurment of all types of lenses instantly with the Topcon CL-100; a large (320×240 dots) LCD panel displays data instantly.
The CL-100 automatically distinguishes a progressive lens and shifts the display to an hourglass representation; simply align the lens with the (+) target.
As soon as the target is properly aligned, the lower section of the hourglass display darkens, indicating readiness to measure lens near power.
Move the lens table to align the glasses for measuring the near section of the lens. With multi-focal lenses, the column fills until a horizontal line appears, indicating establishment of the maximum prescribed ADD power. Now simply press the memory button to complete lens measurement, and repeat the procedure for the second lens.
S.C.A. data can be displayed in larger figures for faster, easier observation. Simply select Expanded or Normaldata display from the Menu Box.
The CL-100 provides fast, positive measurement data of all types of hard or soft contact lenses.
The compact digital printer is built into the CL-100 chassis during production and enables immediate printout of the measurement data.
Please specify the model desired when ordering.
The CL-100 gives an audible indication when lens data is stored into memory.
The CL-100 does have RS-232C interface capabilities, and should be able to integrate with most EHR platforms. You should however check with your specific EHR provider to ensure compatibility.
The CL-100 can be integrate with other refractive Topcon instrumentation:
There are two CL-100 revisions that differ in printing capabilities. This particular revision sold from BuzzOptics does include an internal thermal printer as standard.
