The Matrix 715 makes us realize that its a good time to be alive. Yes, Zeiss has launched the newer 800 model, and yes the Matrix 715 isn’t a young-fresh thing, and yes there are more comprehensive visual fields. But we’re not sure there’s a better visual field at this price point that doubles as both a portable screener and as a full-threshold perimeter. We do see the Oculus Easyfield as a worth competitor, but then again the Easyfield does have three different parts to carry around (perimeter, console, printer, plus all those accessories)– it’s also more temperamental. And therefore we’re convinced that the Matrix 715 is probably the best all-around, well-priced, basic glaucoma management system you can get per dollar. You may feel the urge to give Zeiss all your money in exchange for their brand new Matrix 800 model, however we’ve throughly read through the brochures and seen the demos and once again (crazy) we’re left wondering what they do over there at Zeiss World. The 800 does introduce new networking options, and a new fancy chin rest, yet sadly that’s about all we can find new and different. The testing options and data analysis are all identical, and most of the hardware- including that beautiful LCD screen are um, all the exact same. The Matrix 715 still offers testing without the need for trial lenses (+/- 3D).
OUR TAKE: The best visual field per dollar spent.
HFA Guided Progression Analysis (GPA) software accurately differentiates statistically significant progression of visual field loss from random variability, providing an advanced, proven method to enhance the management of glaucoma. The analysis is based upon detailed empirical knowledge of the variability found at various stages of glaucomatous visual field loss through information acquired in extensive multi-center clinical trials worldwide.
The HFA is the only perimeter with progression analysis validated in the Early Manifest Glaucoma Trial.
- Enhanced Guided Progression Analysis (GPA) software identifies statistically significant progression automatically, and presents
“at a glance” visual field progression analysis on a single page report.
- Visual Field Index (VFITM) is a simple and intuitive global index to determine percentage of field loss on every visual field.
- Pattern Deviation Plots identify localized fieldloss, minimizing ocular media effects such
- STATPAC, the language of perimetry, comparesresults to proprietary age-normative and glaucoma databases.
SITA-SWAP software reduces blue-yellow threshold test time to just 4–6 minutes, providing a clinically practical tool for early detection of glaucoma.
- Patented system automatically tracks and alignshead and eye position.
- Kinetic, Custom and Social Security Disability testing provide a wide range of special purpose testing protocols.
We no longer include a printer with the purchase of the Matrix 715. We do however recommend purchasing the HP Deskjet 6122 for use with the Matrix 715.
It depends on the test, however the Matrix’s SUPRA screening tests are completed in as little as 35 seconds. Full threshold testing will of course take longer.
In general, we believe the Matrix 715 to be friendlier than the HFA series. The Matrix still utilizes Frequency Doubling Technology stimuli (68 of them) and a soft forehead rest that is far less intimidating than the large HFA 700 series.
